Passenger Assistants
Salary Rate: £11.60 per hour
Redbridge is an ambitious, diverse and exciting east-London borough. What we do is driven by changing our relationship with local people to support our vision. As a result, we've developed innovative ways to build our communities and transform our Council.
We're one of the fastest growing parts of the country and the third most diverse London borough. Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.
Would you like to make a real difference to the lives of young people who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities?
We are responsible for the wellbeing of 700 pupils who travel from home to school on our transport on a daily basis. Passenger Assistants are essential to the service. Our team reflect the ethnic diversity of our families.
We are looking to recruit new team members who are patient and caring to work as Passenger Assistants to escort pupils who have special educational needs and disabilities on their journey to and from school. We encourage male and female applicants to join our friendly team and build a rapport with our schools. Experience with children who have special educational needs/disabilities in a personal or work setting will be an advantage.
Passenger Assistants must be available to work split shifts: morning (7am – 10 am) & afternoon (2pm – 5 pm) term time only. You will be given a variety of training to assist you in meeting the needs of the role. Please note that training sessions will fall outside of your shift pattern. The experience gained from working in the role and the training received may be a steppingstone to working in a school for those who may want to look into this for the future.
We are looking to recruit:
- Permanent Contracted Passenger Assistants who will be likely to be assigned to a specific route and will have a consistent number of working hours allocated.
You will need to be sensitive to the needs of the pupils in your care as well as the needs of their parents/carers. You will need to be able to make sound judgements using your initiative and you will need to have good communication skills.
Having a positive outlook and being able to deal with pupils displaying challenging behaviour are key skills required for the role. We would want you to maintain a sense of fun within a secure and structured routine for our pupils on our transport.
Please note that all successful applicants will be required to complete a full enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Baring Service)
If you would like to have an informal discussion about these roles please send an email entitled: ‘Passenger Assistant Discussion Request’ to: karen.scothern@redbridge.gov.uk giving your name and contact number so that Karen may give you a call to discuss.
