Application Process
As part of the application process you will be asked to detail your CV and provide a Personal Statement. Your personal statement should demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria as described in the person specification section. You will also be required to complete a 250-word Behaviour statement on 'Managing a Quality Service'. Further details around what this will entail are on the application form.
Sift
Should a large number of applications be received, an initial sift may be conducted using the lead behaviour, Managing a Quality Service. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or, progressed straight to assessment/interview.
Sift and interview dates as well as the interview location to be confirmed.
Interview
If successful at application stage, you will be invited to interview where you will be assessed on the Behaviours, Experience and Technical Skills. You may also be asked to prepare a presentation. In the event of equal scores after interview, the lead behaviour 'Managing a Quality Service' may be used to decide the preferred candidate.
Interviews will take place in person at our Lowestoft laboratory. A date has not yet been confirmed.
Blended Working
Using a blended working framework, we can have some choice over when, where and how we work to deliver our outcomes to meet customer and business needs. For many people, this will mean working some of the time in a Cefas workplace, some on fieldwork and some from home where this is possible to do so.
Blended working is offered with a minimum expectation of one day per week on site.
The remainder of the working week may be located by personal choice to best meet our business needs: at home, another Cefas base, fieldwork, vessel, visiting a Defra site or other customer base.
Location
Please be aware that this role(s) will be contractually based in a Defra group workplace/office. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location, and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.
Reserve List
A reserve list may be held for a period of 12 months from which further appointments can be made.
Salary
New entrants are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.

Criminal Record Check
If successful and transferring from another Government Department, a criminal record check may be carried out.

Internal Fraud Database Check
Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD). This check will provide information about employees who have been dismissed for fraud or dishonesty offenses. This check also applies to employees who resign or otherwise leave before being dismissed for fraud or dishonesty had their employment continued. Any applicant’s details held on the IFD will be refused employment.
A candidate is not eligible to apply for a role within the Civil Service if the application is made within a 5-year period following a dismissal for carrying out internal fraud against government.
