THE DATA PROTECTION TEAM
The Addleshaw Goddard data team is a large UK wide team of data protection specialists supporting blue chip, FTSE and international clients on a full spectrum of data compliance, contractual and advisory matters.
The team has been systematically growing in both revenue and reputation over the past few years and we pride ourselves on a providing simple, pragmatic advice in this complex and fast paced area of the law. As a team, we have a collegiate and collaborative approach, driven by knowledge and enthusiasm for our specialist area. The team acts for clients across multiple sectors and is particularly well known for its work in retail, tech, financial services and healthcare. key clients include HSBC, Asda Stores and John Lewis.
The practice handles both contentious and non-contentious work, domestically and internationally, and takes a lead role in developing tech-based data solutions with our award winning legal technology team.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE?
We are looking for someone who is a team player and would relish the opportunity to advise on national and international data protection projects advising clients in our chosen sectors.
You should be able to manage your own workload with help from supporting partners, handling a spread of data protection work as and when needed by clients, and be able to delegate to junior lawyers in the team.
At this stage in your career, you should have developed an interest in data protection law and should be keen to continue to grow your expertise. We welcome applications from candidates seeking Associate level (minimum of 2 years PQE), right through to Managing Associate.
WHERE WILL YOU WORK?
Ideally you will be based in the Manchester office for this role, but we could be flexible to one of our other UK offices . The wider Data Protection team are based across all of our UK offices. We operate a flexible, hybrid working system comprising a blend of working in the office and working from home, and we expect that that this will continue for the foreseeable future.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE?
Our ideal applicant will require the following skills and experience:
You should be able to demonstrate that you are able to provide pragmatic, robust and tailored advice and can communicate advice not only in writing but also to clients in meetings and calls.
Have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience advising on UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy and Electronic Communication Regs, and whilst not essential prior experience with FOIA and NIS would be of interest.
Excellent academic achievement with a minimum 2:1 degree.
Experience gained within a comparable environment and at an appropriate level.
Desire and ability to develop strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
Clear understanding and working experience of the operation and structure of a commercial law firm and the needs of the client.
