Here at Serco, we are looking for a Prison Safety Coordinator to join our Safety Custody department at HMP Dovegate - a Category B adult male facility near Uttoxeter, Staffordshire where we care for up to 1160 male adult prisoners over the age of 21 serving a range of sentences including trial, remand, those awaiting sentence and convicted men serving long and short term sentences.


Working as part of a committed team you will deliver a proactive and focused Safety regime - working alongside the current established team to ensure focus is given to issues linked to Safer Custody and harm reduction, maintaining administration systems effectively and efficiently within the agreed timescales.


This is a role suited to someone with extensive administration experience and enjoys working within a challenging environment and has an enthusiastic outlook to ‘getting the job done’ with a professional approach!


You will carry out a wide range of duties and work closely with the Senior Management Team to analyse any trends, coordinate our approach to the management of those at risk of self-harm and violence, ensure strategies and procedures are put in place to solve any issues and ultimately support in keeping prisoners and staff safe. Some of your accountabilities will include:


  • Analyse and evaluate information from a wide range of sources to support and inform the decision making in the identification, reduction and prevention of Safer Custody issues and the management of related incidents.
  • Contribute to a monthly Safer Custody Report, collating feedback, before it is presented at the monthly Governance meeting and within the weekly Safety Intervention Meeting (SIM). The report will cover all strands of Safer Custody to include Self-Harm, Violence, Self-Isolation, ACCT Management, plus risk and harm identification. You will be accountable for producing minutes to these meetings that reflect the conversations around complex prisoners and trends.
  • Regularly update line management regarding local, regional and national safer custody issues.
  • Ensure all relevant recording systems are updated, maintained, used appropriately and that staff involved in recording information are trained in its use as required.


What you’ll need to do the role


To carry out this role successfully, you must have good communications skills both written and verbal and capable of producing written work of a standard that can be used in communication with key stakeholders such as Parole Boards, Offender Management Unit (OMU).


The ability to motivate others is paramount and you will be adept at working under pressure to deadlines - your impressive organisational skills will support with your success in this role!
