Purnell's Restaurant is a small business in Birmingham. We are professional, agile and our goal is to Purnell’s Restaurant is a chic, contemporary, fine-dining restaurant in Birmingham, awarded its Michelin star in January 2009. Purnell’s is located in one of Birmingham city centre’s finest conservation areas, close to Colmore Row and St Phillips Cathedral. Established by Michelin starred Birmingham chef Glynn Purnell in July 2007, the 45-cover restaurant occupies a Victorian redbrick and terracotta corner building, with large windows on both sides providing plenty of natural light during the day. The restaurant has its own bar and lounge area for diners only, where a pre-dinner cocktail or after dinner coffee or digestif can be enjoyed in comfortable surroundings. Glynn Purnell’s bold and innovative cooking provides the ultimate gourmet adventures and has brought him critical acclaim and numerous awards including a Michelin star which he has held for last ten years. The restaurant accommodates tables of up to 6 diners. The private dining room is available for parties of up to 12 diners. Should you require a greater number of guests then the restaurant is available for complete hire..

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the restaurant and bar industry, including knowledge of wines, spirits, and other beverages. The successful candidate will be responsible for selecting the wine list, managing inventory, and providing customers with expert advice on food and beverage pairings. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an extensive knowledge of wines, spirits, and beers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and distributors.
- Create wine lists for the bar and restaurant.
- Provide customers with recommendations on food and wine pairings.
- Assist in the selection of wines for special events.
- Educate customers on the different types of wines, spirits, and beers.
- Ensure that all alcoholic beverages are served in accordance with state laws.
