The Electricity System Operator (ESO) will be at the heart of a new Future System Operator (FSO), focussed on driving net zero and delivering consumer value with a whole energy system mindset. The FSO is a transformational programme, in two parts, Transition, working with National Grid Plc to separate the ESO business ready to become the FSO and Transformation setting up the new organisation, both elements will be operating in parallel and at pace to ensure that the FSO is set up for success.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a motivated Programme Accountant to be part of this exciting programme! This is an 18-month fixed-term contract based in Warwick with circa 2 days per week in the office.

What You'll Do?

Providing comprehensive support to the FSO Data, Digital & Technology (DD&T) workstream, you’ll support with managing their project spend including budgeting, forecasting, providing analysis and narrative of key variances ensuring costs are kept up to date. You’ll monitor SAP to ensure finances are correct and that information is provided in accordance with the month end accounting timetable. You’ll pro-actively implement and incorporate accurate risk and opportunity schedules to enable appropriate decision making and support development of the story compared to regulatory submissions provided under the ESOs framework. As a critical trusted partner, you’ll showcase your financial expertise and project knowledge to provide support to the business.

About You:

In this case, you’re a Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with large scale project accounting experience. You have experience of planning, forecasting, and budgeting as well as reporting financial information. You’re a strategic influencer and have effective stakeholder management and are comfortable working as part of a virtual team.

The new organisation will be set up as a public corporation with operational independence from government – bringing parties together to support optimised decision making and action. As now, it will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem but funded by consumers through price control agreements. It is anticipated that the new organisation will be up and running by or in 2024.
