The Department
This post is part of UWL’s Communication team which plays a central role in delivering on the University’s strategic plan and meeting its marketing and Student recruitment objectives. The Team is part of the Marketing, Recruitment and Communications Department which also includes Events, Campaigns, Digital, Recruitment and Admissions Teams.
The Role
UWL is now looking for a new Communications Officer (External and Internal) to join its expanding team who will play a key role in promoting a positive image of the University through a range of strategies and tactics that support the delivery of the University business objectives.
The Communications Officer will undertake the following activities:
- Seek out, gather and create good news stories from across the University for distribution on internal and external channels as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively to create media campaigns, securing coverage across print, broadcast and digital media.
- Draft copy for press releases, website news stories, social media posts, blogs, opinion pieces, and corporate collateral.
- Engage with the media, proactively selling in stories to deliver increased exposure and profile for the University.
- Engage confidently with multiple stakeholders both internal and external and influence, advise and persuade as required drawing out good news stories.
- Work collaboratively in the team, sharing ideas with the wider marketing team, integrating communications across off-line and on-line platforms.
- Help manage crisis communications as may arise and deal effectively with media queries as required.
The Person
This a demanding and interesting role for an ambitious Communications professional or a recent graduate with the requisite skills and enthusiasm.
Ability to negotiate with internal senior managers and stakeholders.
Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of key social media platforms
Be able to create campaigns, securing coverage across print, online and broadcast media.
Experience of selling stories and being able to successfully engage with external media.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with evidence of being able to work under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
Excellent copywriting, grammar and spelling skills.
The post holder will be required to work outside of normal office hours and some weekend work as required.
