Trainee Smart Meter Installer– No Experience Necessary!
Established in 1996, Lowri Beck provides tailored service delivery for all types of metering service including smart metering systems in support of the gas, electricity and water markets.
In August 2019, Lowri Beck was acquired by Calvin Capital and both firms are now part of the Calisen group.
Calisen consist of three business units, Calvin Capital, Lowri Beck and Plug Me In. Lowri Beck installs metering equipment and provides meter reading and associated services to its energy retailer customers.
Due to a period of growth, we are re-introducing a new training course for anyone who is interested in becoming a Dual Fuel Smart Meter Engineer and who would like to enter the world of Smart Metering.
Smart Metering can be a very rewarding career with potential to earn OTE of £50,000 once fully qualified with opportunities in the future to progress your career into either management or a senior position within Lowri Beck.
What you will receive:
- Level 2 Diploma in Smart Metering (Dual Fuel)
- Fully funded training course with accommodation*
- Below is the breakdown of your salary from the start of training until you are fully qualified:
- Starting salary 0 to 19 weeks £23,094.50
- 19 weeks to 52 weeks £25,300
- After 1 year £37,000 - £40,000 (Dependent upon area)
- Once qualified, ability to earn bonus and push up your earnings towards an OTE of £50,000 - £53,000 (Dependent upon area)

- 30 Days holiday incremental to 33 days with yearly service (inclusive of Bank holidays)

If successful you will complete the necessary training to become a Dual Fuel Smart Meter Installer. The training will take 17 weeks to complete, and a considerable amount of commitment will be required from you and Lowri Beck. You will be required to attend Lowri Becks training centre in Wigan Monday – Friday, undertake homework and build a portfolio of on-site completed work during your time on the job when out with a mentor. At the end of the training, you will receive a recognised Level 2 Diploma in Smart Metering (Dual Fuel).
Once qualified, you will be visiting consumers’ properties as a representative of Lowri Beck to install gas and electric smart meters. You will deliver an exceptional customer experience by ensuring the work is completed safely and tidily, and also ensuring that the consumer has a good understanding of the new meter, including the benefits that smart metering will offer them. To support you, our training package will include everything that you need in order to provide outstanding customer service across all areas.
All applicants will:
- Be willing to complete the necessary training to become a Dual Fuel Smart Meter Installer, including staying away from home while completing training (Mon – Fri, expenses covered*)
- Hold a full, valid & up to date manual driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points, and have not been disqualified from driving within the past 5 years
- Be able to pass a basic criminal record check, and have no unspent criminal convictions on record
- Be capable of working alone in the field with minimum supervision
- Be comfortable working in confined spaces
- Be manually dexterous & capable of lifting
- Be willing to cover emergency call out
- Be flexible in order to adapt to the changing needs of the business, and travel to work in other locations if required
- Have excellent communication & customer service skills
- Have good IT skills – During training portfolio’s will be completed using an e-portfolio software package & once qualified work will be delivered via a handheld terminal (HHT) with timesheets also completed online
