Role
We are currently recruiting for a high-calibre Software Engineer, with experience working in an Avionics and embedded domain to join Thales Flight Avionics at a time of product transition.
The initial role for the successful applicant is for a full lifecycle software developer working on a mature product line of military Avionics Management System products providing aircrew controls in helicopter cockpits to a variety of interfaced radio communication and navigation sensor equipment.
The successful candidate will join a small software discipline team of experienced Thales software engineers working on a variety of programmes and products. Some members of this team are currently investigating future software technologies for future products on military aircraft programmes, both ground based mission support systems and airborne equipment. In due course, there will be opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in the development of these newer products.
The successful applicant will be able to develop their software engineering skills and there may be opportunities to develop leadership skills on upcoming new projects.
The key focus of this role will be primarily in the military rotary wing environment, specifying and implementing software for airborne Avionic Management System products.
This role is located at the Thales site at Crawley, and the successful candidate will be required to work on site some of the time in order to make use of target integration equipment in Avionics laboratories and to work effectively in a team with other colleagues. Thales operates on smart working. A proportion of this role can be conducted remotely in the UK, but the successful candidate must be prepared to commute to the Crawley site when required.
The successful candidate should be security clearable to SC and preferably a UK National.
Required Experience / Working Knowledge:
- Full software development lifecycle experience including Waterfall and Incremental/Agile methodologies
- Requirement capture analysis, Design, Coding, Testing & Configuration management
- Developing avionics software to RTCA - DO-178B-C guidelines, preferably to a Level C standard, for developing safety-related airborne software
- Software development activities using Ada, C and / or C++ programming languages
- Experience of Real-Time embedded systems & software in development and testing
Desirable Experience / Working Knowledge:
- Functional programming in Ada83
- Use of the Rational Apex software development environment under the Solaris/Unix operating system
- Verification test procedure / script development for TestMate and / or VectorCast test tools
- Use of DOORs for documentation
- Performing requirement traceability analysis using Reqtify
- Experience of the use of ARINC-429 and Mil-STD-1553B data bus standards for equipment interfacing and associated bus analyser tools
- Familiarity of UML Use Case, Deployment and Sequence diagrams
- MASCOT II design methodology
- Domain knowledge of aircraft navigation
- Domain knowledge of aircraft radio communications
- Domain knowledge of military aircraft operations
