Job Description
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic General Practitioner to join our Paediatric Senior Medical Team to assist with running our Paediatric Asthma service.
The role would consist of 2 sessions per week covering one day, and offer this post as a 24 month fixed term contract, with the potential for extension.
The post holder will be expected to do one clinic assessing children with suspected asthma and addressing their care needs, participating in MDT’s, the national paediatric asthma audit and other activities to support the care of children with paediatric asthma.
To offer joined up care in the assessment and treatment of children with suspected asthma in a supportive environment with consultant supervision. You will develop competency in the assessment of new and follow up patients. We would welcome GP colleague(s) to join our team to
share expertise and learning and to develop knowledge and skills which will be transferable to your work in Primary Care and we hope this will improve links between our specialties and improve patient experience.
The aim is to provide high quality and responsive paediatric asthma services for the local population. Both local boroughs - Haringey and Enfield have a large number of children with asthma that are
poorly controlled, bypass primary care and often present to the hospital again and again for management of acute symptoms with poor control of their chronic asthma.
The paediatric asthma team comprising of two consultants and an Asthma CNS have developed guidelines and pathways to support the care of children in the hospital and regularly provide education on our GP colleagues in the surrounding boroughs. Through the GPSI post we hope to
improve the link between secondary care and primary care; improving the quality of care, asthma education and the opportunity to develop QI projects.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to;
- Assessment of new and follow up paediatric asthma patients treated
Interpreting paediatric spirometry and peak flow assessment.
- Understanding the correlation between paediatrics asthma and allergy, and the role of skin prick testing and IgE testing.
- Working with the multidisciplinary team.
- QI activities.
- Education and personal development.
- Being adaptable to changes in service need in relation to service development.
