Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences) Programme Leader (Senior Lecturer)

1.0 FTE / 35 Hours per week; Grade 8, £41,931.00 - £52,841.00

Hybrid role: at least 3 days per week onsite

Who we’re looking for:

Plymouth Marjon University are seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our ambitious team within the School of Health and Wellbeing to help to shape the diagnostic workforce within the region. The successful Healthcare Science Programme Leader will initially have a key role coordinating the development and delivery of teaching and assessment across all fields of physiological science within the programme. They will be an excellent and holistic clinical leader, who can drive change, delivering integrated, and technologically advanced healthcare for their patients and communities. The successful applicant will ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment across these areas, making certain that our curriculum meets the requirements of the professional bodies and prepares our students for success in working within the diagnostic workforce.

You will have proven knowledge and experience within your field of physiological sciences and be passionate about teaching and learning. We are seeking an exceptional individual to support us on our journey to becoming the provider of choice for healthcare programmes in the region. You will need to be qualified to at least degree level, and/or hold comprehensive experience and an understanding of the wider sector. You must be registered with your relevant professional body and demonstrate significant continued professional development.

What you’d be doing:

You will be responsible for ensuring that the programme meets the highest standards of quality, and that students receive the necessary knowledge and skills to provide excellent care for patients within their specialist field. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that students receive effective and safe learning experiences and that they are prepared to enter the profession with the necessary competency to thrive. Responsibilities of this post will include:

· Developing and updating the programme to ensure that is aligned with the latest advancements in the field.

· Designing and implementing learning resources, simulation scenarios and clinical activities, that meet the needs of students and apprentices, and that provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to provide high-quality care to patients they interact with.

· Creating effective instructional strategies and approaches to support learners in meeting programme objectives.

· Supporting onsite, student-led, high-quality clinics to patients in conjunction with our collaborative partne.rs

· Providing support and guidance to students, answering questions and addressing concerns, and offering feedback and suggestions for improvement.

· Working with other professionals in the school to develop and implement innovative educational resources that advance the individual fields of practice.

· Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements across the physiological sciences and pursuing professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.

You’ll need to enjoy:

· Teaching and mentoring: a passion for education and a desire to help others develop their skills and knowledge is essential.

· Working with people: you’ll work closely with students, staff, and patients on a daily basis. You should enjoy interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and be able to build strong relationships with them.

· Attention to detail: healthcare science is a precise field, and the work requires a great deal of attention to detail. You should enjoy focusing on the details of testing, diagnosis, and treatment.

· Problem-solving: enjoy finding creative solutions to complex problems. You will need to be able to think critically and make sound decisions, both in the classroom and in the clinics.

· Continuous learning: the physiological sciences are a constantly evolving field, with new technologies and techniques emerging all the time. You should have a passion for learning and staying up to date with the latest research and advancements in the field.

· Collaboration: enjoy working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders, including nurses, osteopaths, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, and manufacturers, to improve patient care and advance the individual.

· Compassion: have a genuine desire to help people. You should be empathetic and compassionate and strive to provide the highest quality care to patient.

Where you’ll work:

In this role, you’ll be based in the Nursing, Health Sciences team within the School of Health and Wellbeing, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. The School of Health and Wellbeing is the largest school in the University, delivering a broad range of health programmes including courses leading to professional registration, healthcare apprenticeships and a portfolio of CPD and short courses at UG and PG levels. We launched our new suite of programmes from January 2023, all in partnership with our valued employers across the integrated care system (ICS). We are seeking to recruit passionate individuals to join our growing team to support the delivery of these exciting developments.

Our current hybrid working policy means you can work from home or on campus, but you will be required to maintain both strong campus and practice-based links and be available on-site or in practice at least 3 days per week.
