What does a Newly Qualified Social Worker do at Hillingdon?

Social Workers protect some of Society's most vulnerable. From helping a family in crisis to supporting a child in care experiencing mental health problems, social work is a varied, challenging, often emotional and very rewarding career.

We want to make it as simple as possible for those committed to a career in helping others to gain the training, qualification and experience needed to be an outstanding Social Worker. Here at Hillingdon Council, you will be supported every step of the way.

About you

As a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) in Children's services in Hillingdon, you will have a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.

On appointment you will be registered on the ‘Assessed & Supported Year in Employment’ (ASYE) programme, giving you access to a range of support and development opportunities in your first year of practice.

Along with regular feedback and supervision from your assessor and manager, you will have access to protected development time to reflect on your progress against the PCF and PQS (KSS). Your ASYE Professional Development Plan will tailor your progressive development to make best use of the support programme available to you including a reduced case load.

You will have opportunities to feedback on your experience, share in case discussions with other NQSWs and meet regularly with the Principle Social Worker. This will enable you to not only become the best practitioner you can be by the end of your ASYE, but to map out a career pathway for yourself in Hillingdon.
