Job Description

Applications are invited for an Anglican Healthcare Chaplain due to service level demands within West Herts NHS Teaching Trust. They must be willing to provide spiritual, religious, sacramental and pastoral care to patients, relatives, visitors and staff whatever their beliefs, culture or lifestyle as part of the Chaplaincy Team based at Watford Hospital. This is an opportunity to join as a Sessional Chaplain, with some on-call responsibility.

The post is open to a chaplain who is eligible for registration with UKBHC. We are looking for someone who is an excellent giver of pastoral care and communicator, who will take a lead within the team in an area of specialism and contribute to the assessment and delivery of spiritual, pastoral and religious care of all

patients, staff and relatives. They will also contribute to the culture of the Trust by sharing in teaching, MDT and committee work.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the on-call service provided by the Trust on a shared rota basis.

The post holder will ensure that the pastoral spiritual or religious needs of patients, staff and visitors are met compassionately, through their own ministry and/or that of other members of the team (including volunteer chaplains).

In addition, the post holder may be expected to share in the responsibilities of the chaplaincy service for training & development, and for upholding chaplaincy standards and quality of care provided in line with the Chaplaincy Guidelines 2015 and standards of professional practice agreed by the Trust.

The post-holder will also, as part of the team, share in continuing development of chaplaincy in the Trust, and will develop and deliver training to other staff groups on spiritual care, as well as attending meetings,

MDTs and committees relevant to role.

To advise staff, patients and carers on spiritual and Multicultural issues, especially but not uniquely those relating to own denomination or faith/belief community.

To co-operate with medical, nursing and management staff in departmental and multidisciplinary meetings and to assist with discussions on the spiritual care of patients as required.

To act as a resource for knowledge, support, training and education for healthcare staff.

To provide training and advice to healthcare staff in the spiritual, pastoral and religious care of patients and relatives/carers as part of the Chaplaincy Team, and also to share in developing an area of interest to

to understanding or acceptance.

To record visits and chaplaincy records in accordance with information governance

policies.

To positively cultivate a good relationship with local faith and belief communities and encourage their support for chaplaincy.

To relate to staff at all levels of the Trust and across all professional disciplines.

To offer pastoral, spiritual and emotional care to patients, staff and visitors to the Trust taking into account their faith, belief and custom.

To offer advice on all aspects of bereavement both before and after death.
