Job Description

Main duties of the job

Undertake 2D clinical photography using specialist equipment for diagnosis, case records, treatment planning, education, research and publication.

Utilise specialist clinical photography techniques and skills including, dermatoscopy, cross polarisation and UV photography.

Interpretation of diagnostic and anatomical terminology (i.e. dermatology) and working closely with clinical staff for clarification of photographic requirements.

Manage dermatology photographic clinics and be responsible for the safe conduct of the patient during their appointment, together with explaining the photographic procedure and confirming consent.

Follow national guidelines for audit purposes and working to protocols to enable accurate recording of all stages of treatment and assessment.

Provide post-production for all photography using professional editing software (Adobe) following standardised workflow protocols.

Using the clinical image database systems (WABA MIM / EPR) for management of and online delivery of images.

Observing Trust policies and procedures.

Education & Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in photography or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • BSc Medical Illustration / Degree in photography plus Post Graduate Certificate.
  • Registered Medical Photographer – AHCS.
  • Membership of Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Experience of general photographic practice.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of dermascopic imaging (training will be provided).
  • Experience of using image management systems.
  • Experience of clinical photographic practice.

Skills and Attitudes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of clinical and general photographic techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst retaining focus on a project despite interruption and to be able to multitask on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  • Knowledge of 2D imaging / photographic equipment.
  • Knowledge of photographic lighting equipment and lighting techniques.
  • Flexible, creative and problem-solving approach.
  • Good level of computer literacy including working knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability in producing standardised and demonstrative clinical photographs.
  • Commitment to undertake CPD activities and to undertake training.
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge and experience of using photo manipulation and graphics software on a MAC or PC e.g.: Adobe Creative Suite. Adobe Bridge / Photoshop. Adobe Premiere. Adobe InDesign.
  • Knowledge of clinical conditions, anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the acquisition and storage of clinical images.
  • Knowledge of colour management.
  • Flexibility with varying work demands.
  • Able to discuss clinical photographic requirements with clinicians.
