Social Care Services Group

Job Description

Due to our continued success in providing better lives for children living within our residential children's homes, Social Care Services Group is providing employment opportunities and a great career opportunity within our established teams in children’s homes and leaving care services across Greater Manchester.

So… even if you have no prior experience this could be your opportunity to start a career caring for children and young people. We will provide training and qualification to Level 4 Diploma and support from experienced teams to enable you to succeed with a structured pay scale and career development opportunities.

What are the roles?

These are full time and part time positions available. They will involve providing daily care and support for our young people including daily routine support, communication, independent living skills, learning and leisure activities. Some challenging behaviours may present, so similar experience is preferred but not essential.

We have a specialist home for children with Learning Disabilities and this is an incredibly rewarding position for you but also very hands on and interactive. There will be times when you feel you have been busy all day meeting the children's needs.

We are looking to recruit for our home in Chorlton, South Manchester and there are options to work Late - Sleep -early shifts or alternatively, Waking Night Shifts (21:30-09:00 with some flexibility). This is the home mentioned above and there are elements of personal care involved.

Our other homes are in Stockport, Salford, Bolton, Leigh and Wigan. The children there have suffered neglect and other forms of abuse throughout their short lives. You could be one of our team that can show them there is a better life and that adults can be trusted, maybe for the first time in their life!

What are the hours?

The roles operate on a rotating combination shift pattern as below:

Start time between 11.00am and 1.00pm up to 10.00pm then sleep in duties commence. Wake up 07.00am and work until 11.00am or 1.00pm. (24.5 hrs to include handover with new shift)

Split shifts: Late shift, sleep in and early shift combined

Waking night shifts as an option if this suits your needs and that of the home!

Average 37 hours per week, including working weekends and sleep in duties paid as additional hours

What are the benefits?

Salary from: £23,500 - £30,500 - Based on Full Time Position (including additional sleep in payments and subject to experience). Note: Part Time position will pay less than Full Time hours.

Employer contribution Pension scheme, full training and qualifications provided, paid holidays, additional pay for sleep in duties (£71.25) and good career development opportunities.

What our staff think you need to have to work with children and young people:-

be caring, compassionate, understanding and show patience.

be a team player, flexible, honest and reliable.

have a good sense of humour and not take things personally.

be brave, confident and resilient.

What our Children and Young People want to know about you!

Do you have issues of your own that might affect your role?

Would you know how to keep yourself and others safe during disruptive/violent behaviour?

Are you one for a second chance? Do you find it easy to get on with people?

Are you willing to work Christmas and New Year?

Would you know how to support a child with alcohol/smoking/drug problems?

These are some of the goals we have for our children and young people:-

to get our young people back into education.

to build relationship skills in young people and teach socially acceptable behaviour.

to help to create better memories for our children and to be optimistic about their lives.

to teach young people new coping skills to deal with their feelings and emotions.

to be prepared for adult life and independence.

to not become criminalised or involved in crime.

If you are interested then you can contact our team for an informal chat to find out if this job is for you and for information and an application pack? We think this is a better way to give you an insight into our company and more importantly what to expect when working with our Children and Young People.
