Paralegal
Based in our Chelmsford office, Hybrid working available.
Our sensitive claims and safeguarding team within Gallagher Bassett Speciality (GBS) is currently recruiting for a paralegal to assist with complex and sensitive work handled by the rapidly growing team. GBS provide legal advice and handle the defence of claims for a wide sector of clients to include educational establishments, local authorities and the Police constabularies. The team’s approach is focused on delivering outstanding client service and dealing with every claim or referral in a sensitive manner.
The sensitive claims team handle complex claims (both pre-litigation and post-litigation) arising from alleged breaches of the Human Rights Act, common law negligence, deaths of vulnerable adults and children as well as providing specific advisory work. We are looking for a paralegal who can support the current team primarily in the review of documentation, production of chronologies and assisting the senior fee earners in the team in supporting them with their cases.
The team are based in Chelmsford but flexible working is both supported and encouraged. This is a unique opportunity to work in a niche, complex and extremely interesting area of the law within a supportive team. Your key duties and responsibilities will include:-
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assisting senior fee earners with various tasks to include legal research, reviewing case records, drafting chronologies and drafting witness statements.
- Reviewing medical records, drafting chronologies and providing a summary of the notable entries.
- Attending client meetings to support fee earners.
- Assisting with the instruction of Counsel and experts.
- Responding promptly to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties.
- Achieving set financial and chargeable targets.
- Supporting the team’s business development and marketing by assisting with writing articles and marketing material.
This list is not exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties within the role and will have wider responsibilities, particularly as you develop your knowledge and skill-set within this niche area of the law.
Experience
Whilst previous experience as a paralegal is not essential, it is preferable. You do not need to have worked in this area of law previously, but must have a genuine interest and passion for working in this area. You must be empathetic to the sensitive nature of the work handled within the team. The role is varied and you will need to have a flexible approach to the work you undertake and be able to adapt to a variety of tasks. In addition to the above, you will need to have the following:-

· Able to prioritise tasks and to meet deadlines.
· Able to work under pressure and in a busy and thriving environment.
