Job Description
We are looking for proactive, responsible individuals to help in the smooth operational running of Newport Street Gallery. We would like a team of accountable individuals, with a keen interest in the arts, who can help maintain the gallery and assist visitors.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday.
Please note that this contract is a Fixed-Term contract for the duration of our current show, therefore we would like candidates to be available to start asap.
This contract will be until Mid September with the the possibility of being extended.
Main duties:
Invigilator
· Invigilating all NPSG exhibition spaces - ensuring the security of the artworks and the building.
· Being a general point of contact within the exhibition spaces for the public and to provide excellent and pro-active customer service.
· Helping with the setup of events and private views if required. Additional hours will be required with advance notice throughout show for events.
Health and Safety
· Ensuring visitor safety during their visit to NPSG.
· Assisting with the evacuation of the public in the event of an emergency.
· Managing security or health and safety issues if they arise.
· Report any security, safety or customer experience issue requiring attention immediately to the gallery front of house team or security staff
Skills and Experience:
· Previous experience in a customer service role would be advantageous.
· Independent fast thinker, who can respond effectively to changing situations.
· Retail or gallery supervisory experience would be beneficial but not necessary.
· Able to work as part of a team and manage your own specific areas independently.
· Answer telephone enquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
· Excellent communication skills and confidence to deal with large volumes of visitors.
· Confidence in dealing with the public directly
· Working hours will vary and Gallery Invigilators may be offered work on any day of the week including Saturdays, Sundays, evenings, and bank holidays. The services provided to the Gallery are on a casual basis for an hourly rate.
· Attend and fully understand the gallery induction and training sessions prior to exhibition openings, or at any time to be able to undertake duties within the galleries
· Be aware of gallery policies and procedures as outlined in induction sessions and handbook documents, and ensure they are enforced in a polite and courteous manner.
· Experience with handling cash and credit transactions would be useful.
· Undertake any reasonable additional duties requested by the Front of House or management team
· Has an interest in the art world
