A great opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Building Domestic (Cleaning, Portering and maintenance) to join our dedicated Capital Estates and & Facilities Department at Broadmoor High Secure Hospital, Crowthorne.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Building Operative to become part of a large team providing an excellent facilities service to our patients and staff.
We operate on a two shift pattern early and late shifts, either early 0800-1630 or late 0930-1800 Monday to Sunday.

You will be responsible for assist maintain a high standard of cleanliness and for ensuring that a clean, safe and a comfortable environment is provided for patients, staff and visitors at all times.
You will be working closely with other team members to clean ward and non – ward areas within the Hospital to a high standard. You will also be assisting transporting goods within the buildings to ward and non-ward areas and assist our in house maintenance team and or contractors with a buddy as and when required.
You will be need to have a good level of fitness as this is a physical role.
You work closely with other team members therefore it will be of benefit if you are a good Team player with good communication skills.

The Post holder will provide comprehensive multi disciplines, domestics, portering and maintenance support services to relevant buildings. The Building Operative will ensure that all equipment, tools and materials are stored in a safe manner in accordance with hospital procedures and in compliance with COSHH.
Key Result Areas & Performance:
Cleaning & Domestic duties
- To maintain a safe and clean environment within areas of responsibility.
- To adhere to local and national standards, work schedules, local operating procedures and hospital policies, Health & Safety, and Infection Control.
- To carry out spot cleaning and ensure spillages are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
- To keep communal areas safe and tidy (e.g. remove clutter, remove laundry and rubbish bags & signage etc.).
- To identify problems with cleanliness in communal and patient areas and to bring to the attention of the Senior Building Operative, Building Manager and/or Clinical Nurse Manager.
- To undertake specialist cleaning of surfaces and finishes in line with service standards.
- To undertake ad hoc specialist cleaning activities (e.g. patient bedrooms, seclusion rooms) as directed.
- Respond to dirty protests in line with protocol.
Maintenance of the environment
- To advise the Senior Building Operative and/or Building Manager of any identified issues related to cleaning, delivery of food service, linen and the environment and to agree an appropriate action plan ensuring that the work is delivered.
- To undertake basic household maintenance and tasks (flashing of taps) and under direction, assist the Senior Building Operative in minor repair work as required.
- To ensure that equipment, materials and tools are safely stored.
- To, as required, ensure the safe storage and management of patient’s personal property and belongings
Linen
- To maintain linen supplies ensuring that it is undamaged and is fit for purpose.
- To make up patients beds as required.
- To remove and replace soiled linen and curtains.
Infection control
- To ensure that all clinical, domestic and confidential waste is appropriately bagged and removed in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- To observe and follow environmental, food and personal hygiene standards.
Supplies
- To ensure sufficient stocks of cleaning material and other consumables are available at all times.
- To place orders for consumables and avoid over-stocking.

- To promote good practice in health and safety in the workplace

- To respond to complaints and take appropriate actions escalating to the Building Operative and/or Manager where appropriate.
- To interact positively with patients and staff, using communication skills to manage aggressive and abusive behaviour.
General
- To participate in team meetings.
- To undertake mandatory and developmental training as agreed in advance by the Building Manager.
- To adhere to Trust policies and procedures at all times.
- The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties as appropriate to the nature and grading of the post.
