Our Client has a requirement for a Quality Control Engineer, who will be required to work on a 12 month contract basis in Birchwood.
Role Purpose:
The role exists in order to provide independent quality inputs to the delivery of projects and contracts, by ensuring advice and support is given to the Engineering/project teams with regards to defining quality control and inspections requirements within design documentation and effective inspection of equipment delivered to our customers.
The Project Quality Control Engineer will carry out inspection assignments as and when required, and undertake specific activities on behalf of the quality team as required.
Job Role Responsibilities:

Liaising with customers to understand their requirements/expectations for quality assurance, quality control and inspection.

Working with Engineering/projects to ensure design deliverables adequately define the customers and internal quality control and inspections requirements e.g. attendance at Design Reviews.

Ensuring Supplier quality arrangements are reviewed and approved / acceptance in accordance with project requirements, including customer approvals, e.g. up-front manufacturing documentation (QCP’s, weld schedules, weld procedures, NDT procedures).

Attend supply chain kick-off meetings to ensure all parties are aware of the requirements.

Producing and setting inspection assignments for Inspectors.

Arranging and carrying out Inspection assignments, including liaison with Customers Inspection personnel.
- Carry out risk assessment prior to inspection activity taking place.
- Inspection of actual equipment.
- Witnessing of specific tasks; NDT, functional testing etc.
- Review and endorsement of supporting documentation throughout the life cycle of the contract; e.g. NDT reports, weld schedules, EC&I test documentation.
- Timely reporting of inspection assignments.
- Ensuring ongoing concurrency and final review of Life Time Records (data dossiers).
- Final release of procured items.

Advising on all aspects of Quality Control & Inspection on projects, including risks and issues.

Participation in project meetings and contract review / handover meetings.

Supporting supplier assessments.

Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with both internal and external Customers.

Supporting the project on closing out and reporting any product quality non-conformances / issues.

Monitor progress against the project quality arrangements, identifying areas of concern to the project and where necessary escalate to Line Management.

Review of enquiry, tender and contract documentation with respect to customers' quality requirements and contract specifications, identifying any project specific requirements which fall outside the company quality system.

Undertake quality planning, including the preparation of the project quality documentation and as required the writing of project specific procedures / local working instructions. The inclusion of health, safety and environment aspects should be considered in drafting the project quality documentation.

Liaison with project subcontractors and suppliers to ensure that the quality and specification requirements are understood.

Review of purchase requisitions / purchase orders for quality requirements input.

Establishing effective communication channels with Customers (internal and external) and Suppliers.

Ensure compliance with company QMS and HSE policies and procedures at all time.

Participate in HSE initiatives.
Knowledge:
-
Good working knowledge of the Nuclear industry.
-
Good working knowledge of all relevant regulations and legislation.

Good working knowledge of the Customers quality requirements.
-
Good working knowledge and application of ISO 9001.
-
Good working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.
Experience:
-
Have completed a manufacturing apprenticeship supported with EITB NVQ’s.

Involved in the manufacture, assembly and testing of turnkey specialist assemblies.
-
Have experience in Quality Control Plans and Inspection & Test Plans.

Have experience preferably gained within a similar role in the Nuclear or other highly regulated industry in the following areas:
- Fabrication and welding techniques.
- NDT techniques.
- Mechanical Inspection.
- Electrical assembly and testing.
- Reviewing material certification.

Other:

Ideally be qualified to a HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject e.g. engineering.

Weld inspection qualification – CSWIP 3.1 or PCL Level 2 (WI).

Have auditor training.

Willing to travel to locations / sites throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.
