POSITION SCOPE
The Industrial Placement Student position in the NPD packaging team will execute a variety of packaging Innovation & Renovation projects in support of the business objectives. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work across a broad-range of packaging commodity types (e.g. poly film, corrugate, paperboard, PET bottles etc.), ensure food safety, and provide value to the customer while controlling overall costs. This position must work closely with internal customers across multiple locations (UK and Portugal) and functional areas such as operations, procurement, quality etc, as well as external suppliers to successfully deliver projects against businesses requirements. A successful candidate would be self-motivated with a passion for exceeding customer expectations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Simultaneously manage multiple projects of either a continuous improvement nature (cost savings, productivity gains, and process improvements), sustainability, or to fulfill a specific customer need.

Technical support to create new/revise existing packaging specifications across all phases of development; responsible for the maintenance of packaging specifications within SAP.

Oversee plant trials in support of project implementation; reporting against predetermined key performance indicators to gain adoption within the Operations group.

Identifies packaging related waste and material standardization opportunities; implementing improvements when supported by a business case.

Support the technical packaging and sustainability program in collaboration with cross- functional teams (including but not limited to Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Sales & Marketing) .

Performs other departmental duties as assigned .
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Expected to achieve final year qualifications in science/engineering degree (like Material Science, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering related subjects).

Entry-level role, so no prior experience working directly with packaging development is required.

Basic knowledge of a broad range of packaging materials and/or packaging equipment commonly found within the Food and Beverage or FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) industry as covered in University course, is preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work under supervision as well as unsupervised and to prioritize the workload to meet project objectives.

Adaptable and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Strong organization skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Less than 5% travel for business meetings; travel frequency will be minimal and will be based on business needs.
