Description

As the Head of Process Safety for EMEAI region at Sherwin-Williams you will be accountable for providing support to the EMEAI region sites for Process Safety Management and risk control services as follows:

  • Implementation and management of the Corporate Process Safety Management framework
  • High-hazard risk reviews and critical risk assessments including PHAs, HAZOPS and What-If Analysis
  • Process safety action plan development and collaborative support to the EMEAI region in process safety related topic areas including:
    • Handling or processing of flammable (ignitable) liquids or combustible powders
    • Resin process safety including venting and control systems
    • Environmental control systems (e.g. thermal oxidizers)
    • Life-safety (exiting, illumination, detection and evacuation alarm systems)
    • Property loss control
    • Hazardous area classification and control of ignition sources (electrical and mechanical)
    • Electrostatics control and related systems including qualification assurance
    • Chemical safety and security risk management
    • Intermediate bulk containers for liquids and powders
    • Nitrogen inerting
    • Special hazards including Nitrocellulose, Monomers and Peroxide storage and handling
  • Process safety-related capital project prioritization, including supporting definition of scope and risk ranking
  • Process safety-related governmental compliance including SEVESO/ COMAH, and ATEX/ DSEAR
  • Building process safety competence of the EHS and engineering teams within the region
  • Routine communication and collaboration with the region
  • Support of Corporate PSM/EHS Audits in the region
  • Collaboration and support of achieving the regional and site EHS tactical plans
  • Support sites (identify solutions and support advancement and implementation) with closure of level 1, 2, and 3 action plans to mitigate EHS risks.

The position actively supports the principles of Operational Risk Management and Control and works to enhance the organization-wide use and effectiveness of Operational Risk Control Systems.

The position works directly with the Director-Safety, Director – Process Safety, International Director-EHS, EMEAI EHS Director and Area EHS Managers, EMEAI Director-Engineering, plant managers and local engineering, and the VP-Operations to bring about results. The position works directly with GRC Global engineers, government authorities, industry trade groups, and fire and building code organizations.

The overall function is to support the development, implementation and management of the Corporate Process Safety Management framework, across all of the PSM elements, at each of the manufacturing facilities in the EMEAI region, to reduce risk of catastrophic process safety events. This includes:

  • Facilitation of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), as well as coaching and training on the risk assessment method, action management and use of PHA-Pro software
  • Assuring Management of Change (MOC), Process Safety Information (PSI), and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) programs and processes are in place
  • Supporting the development of Mechanical Integrity programs and management of safety critical equipment (in collaboration with Regional Engineering)
  • Development and facilitation of PSM training for PSM coordinators and element owners of overall PSM awareness of specific topics as required
  • As necessary, leads serious incident investigations where required in order to identify root-causes and to establish means to prevent future occurrences.
  • Auditing of sites against the requirements of Corporate EHS/PSM standards and the overall PSM framework.

The position works to identify solutions providers such as specialized contractors with knowledge and expertise in areas requiring process safety / risk control improvements. The position supports business planning activities through risk identification and prioritization support so as to best minimize and eliminate both life-safety and operational risk.

The educations, skills and experience required for the role...

  • Minimum B.Sc in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, M.Sc preferred
  • Should be chartered Eng – also process safety qualifications
  • Extensive experience in chemical or related operations
  • Knowledge and familiarity with venting calculation methods, NFPA and EU Codes and Standards related to chemical process safety and mechanical integrity
  • Knowledge and familiarity with flammable and combustible liquids, physical, reactivity and health hazards associated with same, and electrostatic
