Job Description

For many games developers at your level in the industry, having a desire to improve both inside and outside work is a key and motivating factor and Hyper Luminal Games are here to help. It’s important that any studio environment embraces progression for you to grow and understands the required learning that meets that progression. Hyper Luminal will tailor your learning. Equally the work and the projects need to be engaging and fun, development and creativity are the essence of having fun. We don’t stifle creativity; in fact, we continuously encourage it. You won’t be working in a cubicle and there’s no expectation of silence, engage and interact as much as you like! We are in the business of creating great content and making a difference with every project we work on, whether it’s Work for Hire or our own original I.P. Part of this is knowing that as a team member you will be recognised for your skill and effort, and within a culture of ‘praise’ that means coming to work is more than just earning money. You’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technologies, ensuring the applications delivered are high performing, responsive and maintainable. You’ll have the capability to influence the choice and extent of technologies used, as we develop our applications. You’ll be responsible for delivering expertly designed components, built, debugged, tested and verified, ready for integration into various contexts across the business. You are encouraged to be as good as you can be and there are systems in place within the studio to support you to do just that. Incremental improvement is our aim and all team members are involved in what and how that evolves. If this feels like a place where you can thrive and grow, with the team, the projects and the studio, then apply for this position and let’s explore working together!

Unfortunately at this time, we can not offer remote working.

  • Executing test plans in Cucumber Studio to test development builds
  • Finding and reporting bugs using JIRA to ensure quality
  • Multiple platforms testing, including PC, console, and mobile, to maintain quality and consistency
  • Delivering stable, high quality titles for the studio by working closely with production and the development team
  • Interacting directly with individual developers to further explore or identify detail around particular issues
  • Supporting other team members by helping them be more efficient and effective in what they do as part of the creative game development process

Requirements

Essential

  • Passion for gaming on all platforms
  • Knowledge of the gaming industry
  • Experience working in a team, either professionally or through academia

Desirable

  • Experience working in a game or software development environment
  • Multiple device experience (mobile, PC, games console)
  • IT competence (G Suite, Microsoft Suite)
  • Experience participating in beta testing or early access releases
  • Passion for game design and/or the inner workings of software

Skills and Abilities

  • Persistence; don’t give up! Especially when tasks are repetitive and long
  • Accuracy in identifying issues within a game build
  • Awareness of “usual” problem areas. Having a general awareness of the kind of areas where bugs generally occur in games, to investigate thoroughly
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills for finding the causes of identified issues
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable bug reporting and detailing of issues
  • Confidence learning new systems, as the games and the platforms evolve regularly
  • Work well as part of a multi-discipline team even under tight deadlines

At Hyper Luminal Games we are passionate about our employees and provide development opportunities for all our staff. We take pride in the fact that we understand individual reward systems for all our team members, encompassing not only remuneration but responsibility, recognition, and individual learning. We offer competitive salaries, a generous pension scheme, life insurance and 28 days of holiday increasing yearly to a maximum of 33 days after 5 years.

At Hyper Luminal, creative collaboration is the key to success. Team members are given a range of responsibilities within a flat hierarchical structure, to enable an entirely team-driven games development process. Your role at Hyper Luminal is to ensure our games and software utilise a 'best in class' codebase, helping the studio to continually raise its quality bar and reach beyond what is generally expected of a smaller development team. We value your commitment and strive to ensure that all team members are included in a range of after-work activities to help prosper curiosity and creativity, including exciting games nights, delicious dinners and unique team-based events. We look forward to welcoming you into the Hyper Luminal Team!
