About us
Solihull Healthcare Partnership is a super partnership providing NHS GP services to over 54,000 patients through one individual GP practice operating from seven surgeries across Solihull / Shirley.
Our vision is to forge a strong relationship between our multidisciplinary team within our healthcare centres and the wider community. With a small centralised management team that support our GP practices and provide HR, IT, finance, governance, operations and communications services; our GP practice teams can concentrate their energies on providing excellent / outstanding care to our patients.
Role
A physician associate (PA) is a trained healthcare professional who works directly under the supervision of a doctor as part of the medical team. They are usually generalists with broad medical knowledge but can develop expertise/specialisms in a particular field.
The responsibilities of the role include direct patient contact through assessment, examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment. Physician associates will have a key role in supporting delivery of Network Contract DES Services.
Responsibilities:
- They will provide first point of contact care for patients presenting with undifferentiated, undiagnosed problems utilising history-taking, physical examinations and clinical decision-making skills to establish a working diagnosis and management plan in partnership with the patient.
- They will review, analysis and action diagnostic test results.
- They will deliver patient centred care through appropriate working with the wider primary care multi-disciplinary team and social care networks.
- They will undertake face-to-face, telephone and online consultations for emergency or routine problems.
- They will undertake home visits and participate in duty rotas.
- Physician associates will provide health/disease promotion and prevention advice to patients.
- They will utilise clinical guidelines and promote evidence-based practice; partake in clinical audits, significant event reviews and other research.
- Through participating in continuing professional development opportunities Physician associates will keep up to date with evidence-based knowledge and competence in all aspects of their role, meeting clinical governance guidelines for continuing professional development (CPD).
All physician associates will develop and agree a personal development plan (PDP) utilising a reflective approach to practice. They will operate under appropriate clinical supervision, with the PCN member practice's identifying a suitable named GP supervisor for each physician associate. The GP supervisor is not required to be physically present but must be readily available for consultation.
