Job Description Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Risk & Controls Office within our Corporate & Institutional Banking Function, supporting the Corporate and Institutional Coverage (CIC) Business as the Head of CIC Risk & Controls. The role holder will lead a team of risk and controls professionals, and report into the Risk & Controls Director, as well as the MDs for Corporate & Institutional Coverage to ensure a strong business partnership.
Core Purpose of the Role
Across the CIC business areas, the role holder will:
- Lead in all matters relating to the risk and control environment (financial and non-financial risk).
- Ensure that risk and controls are managed holistically, and on an End-to-End basis.
- Ensure transformation is delivered safely, through using ‘Control by Design’ to design regulation in, and risk out from the outset.
- Challenge and advise the business to mitigate and control risks in accordance with the risk appetite.
- Drive delivery of control automation and risk profile completeness.
- Work and partner with 2LoD and 3LoD on compliance and review activity.
- Lead a team to ensure adherence to relevant Group Policies and regulations.
- Proactively perform robust root cause analysis and read across on relevant Material Events, Risk Events, Audits and Rectifications to prevent reoccurrence and reduce potential customer harm.
- Proactively performs horizon scanning to understand potential internal and external headwinds that could impact the business and its risk and control environment.
- Leads in the delivery of relevant regulatory submissions, and competently engages with the regulators on key areas of focus, addressing their concerns where required.
Capabilities, Skills, Knowledge & Experience
The role holder will:
- Evidence strong risk management and compliance capabilities, calling on subject matter experts where required.
- Evidence thought leadership and innovation to develop enhanced ways to manage risk and controls are managed (e.g., through use of data and automation).
- Understand the current regulatory environment and impacts on the business.
- Knowledge of relevant Financial Conduct Authority sourcebooks and relevant Prudential Regulation Authority regulations.
- Strong coaching and leadership capabilities.
- High level of stakeholder management, influencing and communication skills, particularly at a senior level and to senior committees (e.g., BCB Risk Committee and Product Governance Committee).
- Understand the key drivers and challenges facing CIC colleagues and clients.
- Be able to proactively seek opportunities and deliver improvements to enhance the customer and colleague journey.
- Build a high performing team through strong leadership, coaching, and empowering direct reports.
