The Curraghs Wildlife Park are looking for a Qualified Animal Keeper to bring their experience to the Isle of Man!
The Park is securely funded by the Isle of Man government, located on a wetland with a Ramsar site forming part of the 40 acre Park, it’s a beautiful setting. We are BIAZA and EAZA members, have a small to medium collection across varied taxa. As a qualified keeper on the animal team you’ll need to cover different species, as we have one section with 6 FTE keepers – however we are keen to hear about your specialist knowledge and skills in a species or keeper discipline that you can bring. We are also able to support further development to give you the skills and opportunities you need to flourish.
The Isle of Man is a crown dependency in the British Isles, with its own government and not in the UK. Island life is laid back, and you will find a superb quality of life here. Isle of Man residents enjoy some of the lowest tax rates in Europe, a much lower rates system with no council tax. The Isle of Man was recently ranked 4th safest place in the world in terms of crime and is the safest place in the British Isles. If you like outdoor sports and nature you’ll love island life, the whole island is a Unesco biosphere.
If you do not have Manx worker status we will need to apply for a work permit for this position, however we are optimistic this will be granted for the right candidate.
Salary advertised is for a 37hr week however the Animal keeper position is 41hrs a week averaged over a 3 week rota, an incremented rate is paid for Saturdays and double time on Sundays this means you can expect to earn a gross salary in the region of £31,000 to £39,000 on the advertised basic. There is no high tax band on overtime the maximum tax band is 20%.
Property and rental market prices are still lower than the Channel Islands and some other areas of the UK such as the South East but could be seen as more expensive depending on where you are currently living.
