When it comes to the environment, you’ll ensure we’re travelling in the right direction
In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Encouraging sustainable transport modes such as buses and tubes and decarbonisation are priorities – and we’re making good progress in achieving them. 90% of the borough’s population are already within 100 metres of an electrical vehicle (EV) charging point and nearly all of the Council’s bus stops are accessible to people in wheelchairs but we know there is so much more to do.
As our Transportation Officer, you will play a key role in helping the council continue to meet its environmental targets. Working closely with residents, councillors, contractors and other public sector bodies, you will roll out a reliable EV recharging infrastructure. This will include identifying new sites for EV charging points, agreeing programmes for installation, arranging signage and road markings, and communicating the EV offer to residents and visitors. Improving the accessibility of our public transport provision will also be an important element of the role and you will be a key point of contact for our mobility forum, championing improved accessibility for people with disabilities. It’s a varied and rewarding role where you’ll be able to see the results of your work in the streets around you.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information
You’re someone who is passionate about improving air quality and helping our residents live better lives. Experience of working for a local authority or public transport provider would be a plus. You’ll be used to implementing projects and schemes, and adept at using spreadsheets and databases to keep track of your work. Priorities can shift so you’ll be ready to manage a rapidly changing workload. However, this role is as much about people as planning, so you’ll need to be a patient and empathic listener, as well as good at managing expectations, solving problems and negotiating positive outcomes. There’s occasional out-of-hours working to attend public meetings.
In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
Please apply online explaining how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification and job description. CV’s will not be considered for this role.
