Leagrave Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a healthcare assistant to join the practice, to support the nursing team, ideally on a full-time basis but part time or job share would be considered.
Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. The healthcare assistant will be able to apply their clinical skills and knowledge to carry out high quality practice within designated clinical areas such as:
- wound care, ECGs, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines including annual flu clinics
- Assist with provision of pre-assessment for LTC checks i.e., Diabetes, Hypertension, Stroke and CHD
- new patient health checks
- re-stocking and stock rotation of surgical equipment and vaccines.
- clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms.
- preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations/Chaperoning.
- providing valuable health promotion and education for service users, their families, and carers.

- Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
- Ideally a qualification in phlebotomy/venepuncture.
- Strong clinical skills.
- Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post.
- Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting.
- Experience of using SystmOne Clinical System
- Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
- Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
Leagrave Surgery is a supportive partnership in the north of Luton close to Leagrave train station. We are proud of our clinical care and patient services, at the heart of our local community. The practice currently has 2 GP Partners, 4 long term locums, 2 Nurses, and a very skilled multi-disciplinary team including Pharmacists, HCA's and PA's. Our current practice list size is around 9,200.
We work closely with the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes (BLMK) Primary Care Training Hub and actively encourage our staff to take up their support and development offers.
We are enthusiastic about medical education, and we are the first PCN in BLMK to successfully complete our application to become a PCN learning environment which allows us to take on a variety of students and further grow our multi-disciplinary team.
We are a mature PCN, and all practices work well together under the leadership of Dr Haydn Williams, GP Partner Sundon Medical Centre and Sarah Bunn PCN Business Manager. Successfully delivering the PCN DES, COVID Vaccination programme and Enhanced Access.
