Junior Accountant

This is a remote role with flexible working hours, with support from other team members available Monday - Friday and requiring direct contact with the firm’s clients. As the practice grows, this role may offer opportunities for increased hours and/or career progression within the firm. While the role is remote, the interview process may include an in-person interview.
The ideal candidate will assist with delivering compliance services to our business clients, including bookkeeping tasks, preparation of financial statements and business tax computations for manager’s review.
Your tasks may include:
- Liaising with clients for outstanding information;
- Periodic bookkeeping tasks;
- Bank reconciliations, control account reconciliations;
- Calculating and posting periodic accounting adjustments;
- Participating in planning meetings with the client;
- Drafting VAT reviews for manager’s review;
- Drafting of financial statements under UK GAAP for manager’s review;
- Drafting of UK tax computations and tax returns for manager’s review;
- Charity accounting and accounting from incomplete records;
- Reviewing of client’s records for gaps;
- Preparing clients’ information for preparation of management accounts;
- Drafting of internal compliance documents and client communications for manager’s review.
We are looking for an individual with the following skills:
- Strong numerical skills;
- Great attention to detail and high accuracy;
- Good spoken and written communication skills to enable effective communication with clients and collaboration with team members;
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
- Strong Excel skills, comfortable with Microsoft suite;
- Familiar with Xero bookkeeping software.
Experience and qualifications:
- Accounting qualification is desirable;
- Ideally 1-2 years’ experience of working in an accounting practice in a bookkeeping role.
Working hours, pay and benefits:
- Minimum 10 hours per week across 1-2 days. Exact working hours can be negotiated and can be flexible;
- Pay: £12 - £16 per hour, depending on experience;
- Extra paid day off for your birthday and extra paid time off in the week between Christmas and New Year;
