Job Description

Role: Warrants and Firearms Administrator

Department: Operational Support Unit

Location: Carbrook House HQ, Sheffield

Salary: £21,432 - £23,100

Hours: 14 hours per week

Contract Type: Permanent


Role Purpose:

Input applications on to NFLMS and production of certificates for firearms licensing.

Circulate person wanted on warrant and recall to prison.

Provide customer service to those contacting Warrants and Firearms Licensing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review notifications from Court from Bichard 7 and create a warrant on Connect and circulate to PNC
  • Research the best address for the wanted person using a variety of systems selecting the most appropriate to be circulated. This was previously done by intelligence analyst pre connect.
  • Assign the warrant type based on the type of fail to appear issued. For example, issuing a first instance warrant for a postal requisition or report on summons or a Fail to appear for warrants where the suspect was bailed.
  • Decide on the necessary charge decision for Section 6 of the bail act depending on the type of bail that the suspect breached. This has previously been left to individual officers to decide based on custody Sgt advice. This requires specialist knowledge of legislation and PNC.
  • Selecting the appropriate unit to conduct enquiries.
  • Responding to officer queries about warrant types and liaising with court to determine where warrants may be issued incorrectly and avoid false arrests.
  • Responding to Out of Force warrant queries
  • Circulation of License recalls to prison and ensuring all the necessary documentation has been provide by the home office thus avoiding false arrest
  • Inputting and circulation of extradition requests.
  • Quality control check firearms licensing applications submitted by member of the public and Input applications on to NFLMS.
  • Production of shotgun and Firearms Certificates following the completion of the Firearms Enquiry officers report and authorisation by the managers. Select the appropriate conditions and calibres based on the information provided.
  • Update NFLMS on Location of Firearms should it be added in that all gun purchases and transfers are checked to ensure they have been conducted legally in accordance with each certificate holders authority to purchase/possess
  • Provide assistance to members of the public attempting to access Firearms Licensing Online Portal.
  • Keeping force wide systems up to date such as Smart contact to ensure that officers are aware of the presence of firearms when responding to incidents.
  • Answer telephone calls, emails and other correspondences, providing advice to member of the public or other agencies on Warrants and Firearms Licensing matters.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria, which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. A minimum checkable history of 5 years is required for this role and successfully undergoing recruitment vetting procedure is a pre-requisite of employment with South Yorkshire Police.
